Wooden Fumigation

ISPM-15 Fumigation

Two forms of treatments for timber packing have been developed and certified by the International Plant Protection Convention, which represents 140 nations worldwide, to efficiently control exotic pests that are present in the wooden packing material. The first is MB-marked methyl bromide fumigation. Heat treatment with HT labeling is another.

Antifunagal Treatment

The packaging wood material's high moisture level causes fungas to form. During transportation, fungas formation will occur if the wood's moisture level exceeds 18%. There is a significant possibility of fungas forms on the hardwood packing materials when the containers are opened at the port of discharge. Additionally, because of the strong odor caused by the unsanitary fungas formations, the consignee will be unable to remove the cargo from the container. This will have an adverse effect on the health of the unloading workers at the port of discharge.

Fungas are not controlled by standard methyl bromide fumigation. It exclusively manages pests and living insects. Before shipping, wooden packaging materials are treated with efficient fungicides to prevent fungal growth; if not, the wood should be kiln-dried.
